24th BWBL Open Championship starts in Marijampolė, Lithuania
First two games of the 24th Baltic Women’s Basketball League (BWBL) Open Championship will be played in Marijampolė (LTU) on Saturday at 16:00 and on Sunday at 13:00. Lithuanian champions Sūduva, Marijampolė will meet Olimpia, Grodno, bronze medallists of the Belarusian Championship.
Defending champions Inventa (formerly Dynamo-Farm), Kursk (RUS) and Belarussian champions and Cup winners Tsmoki-Minsk also will participate in the BWBL Open Championship. Inventa joined Russian Premier League this season.
In the regular season each team will play every other team four times (two games at home and two games away). All four teams will fight in the Final Four. This season each team will play 14 games.
The BWBL with their new partner Genius Sports launched its newly designed website before new season.
The BWBL was founded in 1994 and is officially recognised by FIBA.
Lithuanian teams were crowned BWBL Champions 18 times, Belarusian teams won the title three times, Latvian and Russian teams have triumphed once.
