Today in Kaunas ended XVII BWBL championship. Four strongest teams and just three places to fight for. Third place and bronze medals winners became Minsk BC “Horizont” team and the Champions of the Baltic Women’s basketball league title went to Final Four hosts Kaunas “Vici-Aistes”.
Match for the 3rd place
BC “Horizont” vs. “Lemminkainen”
Seems like all games of this Final Four has one common feature common – 30 minutes teams play step in step and only ten great played minutes are enough for victory. Saturday’s opening game for the third place was not an exception. First two quarters neither “Horizont”, nor their opponents from Klaipeda “”Lemminkainen” could not reach more obvious advantage. But the situation changed a lot after the long brake. Belarusians came with new power on the floor and won the third quarter on 18 points. After this knockout “Lemminkainen” did not manage to get back and Belarusians celebrated Bronzal victory on 100:77 (24:23, 25:27, 31:13, 20:14).
Klaipeda team did not make non of their 8 attempts to score 3 points shot, while “Horizont” made 7 from 19 attempts (36,8%).
Unstoppable on winners’ team was T. Likhtarovich, who chipped in 35 points. 17 points were added by T. Troina. Two players A. Khomenchuk and S. Valko got 10 points each and was very near to reach double figures. A. Khomenchuk grabbed 9 rebounds and S. Valko made 9 assists.
I. Raugaite scored 22 points in Lithuania team loss. R. Milieskiene helped with 17 and G. Gutkauskaite with 13 points.
Match for the 1st place
“Spartak” vs. “Vici-Aistes”
A little bit different scenario was in game for the gold. Both teams wanted to end season in BWBL with one more victory. This time stronger were Final Four hosts Kaunas “Vici-Aistes” players. Step by step they were going to the last and most important victory. Lithuanians won three of four quarters and lost only second one on 1 point. Led by head coach G. Shetinin Russians were fighting till the end of the game, though after final referee they had to acclaim more experienced opponents and Women’s Euroleague participants multifold winners of the Baltic women’s basketball league led by head coach M. Sernius and assistant coach one of the greatest Lithuanian basketball players J. Streimikyte-Virbickiene – Kaunas “Vici-Aistes” team. Final result of the game 85:72 (20:26, 10:16, 22:21, 20:22).
Top-scorers on golden team were C. Pylipaitis with 18 points and A. Bimbaite with double-double: 17 points and 13 grabbed balls under boards. M. Solopova added 16 points.
E. Beliakova answered with 26 points in St. Petersburg team loss. J. Lacy helped with 17 points and O. Vorobjova and M. Anderson each got 9 points.
Winners were prized by President of BWBL Prof. Dr. Habil. Kazimira Prunskiene, President of Lithuanias coaches association Vydas Gedvilas, BWBL Vice President Kanstantsin Sheravera, BWBL General Secretary Algimantas Ivasauskas and head of referees, FIBA Commisioner Kestutis Skerys.
Most valuable player of Final Four became Kaunas “Vici-Aistes” gurad Ausra Bimbaite.

Best regular season player became Ala Murauskaya, “Berezina-RCOR”, Borisov.
Prized with cups were three teams regular season winners: St. Peterburg “Spartak”, Minsk “Minsk 2006” and Grodno “Olimpia”.
Medalled for activity in women basketball were: President of “Vici-Aistes” V. Matijosaitis, President of BC “Horizont” D. Lvovich, A. Dobrynin, General Director of club “Spartak” A. Kryukov, V. Gedvilas and sportswear experts “Tuta” director V. Navikauskas.
