III round review

III round of Baltic Women’s Basketball League championship was a dream come true for Belarusian junior team. Young Belarusian team made it clear to everyone that they are one of the strongest teams in the competition and there win over last year’s vice champions Arvi is just one prove of that. Junior national team of Belarus currently tops League’s table. Together with TIM SCUF from Kiev they are the only two teams yet to lose a game.TIM SCUF did not play in this round. Ukrainians have won all of their 5 games and are currently Nr. 6 in the competition.
Probably biggest upset of the season so far is the vice champion’s Arvi 7th place. After losing to Laisvë in the II round Lithuanians were clear favorites to win all their games in this round. But this was not to be. Hugely experienced team could not stop quick Belarusian juniors. Having won first half 38:33 Arvi did not make it in the second which they lost 22:36. Preliminary season favorites are yet to find their rhythm.
TTT/Riga was the team which did not struggle in this round. Latvians were self-confident playing in front of the home crowd. 3 wins out of 3 is the best possible result for Latvian champions. Last year’s bronze medal winners are in the 3rd place at the moment.
RTU/Klondaika players had opportunity to top the tournament, but they lost to TPU/AJ and missed their chance. Both Latvian teams – TTT/Riga and RTU/Klondaika – have 12 points, but RTU/Klondaika’s first round win over their neighbors lets them stay on place higher.
Baltijskaja zvezda 2 did not come to this round’s competition. Russians were given technical loses 0:20 in 3 scheduled games. LKKA-Kaunas and Lithuanian junior team took advantage of this and got their first wins.
IV round of BWBL championship is scheduled on the 17-25 December in Kaunas, St. Petersburg, Marijampolë and Tallinn.
