The 24th Baltic Women’s Basketball League (BWBL) Open Championship began on Saturday in Marijampolė (LTU). Hosts Sūduva won two times against Olimpia, Grodno, bronze medallists of the Belarusian Championship. In the first game of the season Lithuanian champions beat Olimpia 78-71. On Sunday, Sūduva won 89-86.
Sūduva hit just 4-of-18 3-pointers (22.2 percent) in the first game, but next day they made 13-of-27 3-point field goals (48 percent).
On Saturday, Sūduva led 37-24 in the 15th minute, 54-53 after third quarter. Visitors went ahead 56-60 with 7 minutes to play, but home team managed to win the game.
On Sunday, Sūduva again were in the lead most of the match. They led 58-48 in the 21st minute, 72-68 after third quarter. Olimpia gained a four-point lead 76-80 with 4:40 to play. But again victory went to Lithuanian champions.
